President's Challenge 2024
Using the Unused
Hello BAMQ Members,
My challenge for 2024 is about using items we purchased and have never used. There are two parts to the challenge – fabric and rulers. Let’s pull out these unused items, play with them, remember what drew us to them in the first place, and finish a project using them.
-Melinda
Jaye L - Running with Scissors Tote
I used the Carolina Moore Boxed Bag Template (ruler) (https://amzn.to/3A0s7dH) to round the corners on the bag. This is a ByAnnie pattern and I made it for myself.

Sue S - Plover Pouch
Noodlehead release the Plover Pouch pattern about the same time our pouch swap was announced. I collect blue and white fabric every time I visit a new quilt shop. It seemed like the right time to dig into that fabric.

Jaye L - Orange Peel Circles
I have been wanting to try to make 'Orange Peel circles' using the Clammy ruler. I finally did it. I tried the second technique Latifah Saafir showed me during the 2021 class using the 6" Clammy. The method cuts two squares first.

Jaye L - Hugs and a Kiss
Ombre Weave pattern. I had a dessert roll of V&Co ombre confetti fabrics that had been hanging around. I finally decided to use them in a quilt for my great niece. I am calling the quilt Hugs and a Kiss. The pattern directions were a challenge and I ended up going my own way with the design.

Carrie P- Fan Quilt
I used one fabric for my quilt and no old rulers. This quilt is 73”x66” and is made out of the blocks I made in the Christine Camille wedge zoom workshop the guild had last September. The dog paw fabric I used is 14 years old.

Lee Ann F - Stitch, Cut, Cozy
July2024: the product of the Alison Glass Cozy sew along using cotton jersey for front and backing with the “good quilting fabric” as the middle layer. Mofits were traced onto the top, hand stitched around, and trimmed leaving a ‘seam allowance’ to expose the many beautiful designer fabrics. These fabrics were gathered from fat quarter collections curated by the Modern Handmade quilt store in subscription boxes. I hadn’t found a project to highlight these beauties but the cozy quilt allowed me to use multiple fabrics from three different designers.

Catherine W - California Butterfly
Nine foot California and butterfly themed table runner using fussy cut California themed fabric and horded Hoffman fat quarters collected during the time when I amassed fabric because I had little time to sew.

Jaye L - Colorblocks 3
Colorblocks 3 is the third in a series of quilts dealing with color in different ways. This one, using silk, has been in my mind since 2003. The guild Fair challenge and the President's challenge came together to make the quilt a reality.

Jaye L - Bluestem Chrysanthemum Pouch
This is one of the new patterns from Sew Sweetness. I used a Philip Jacobs fabric I have been hoarding after receiving another piece of it for my birthday. I decided to 'use the good stuff'. Usually I buy the acrylic templates for this designer's patterns, but she didn't have them for this particular pouch.

Eleanor J - Tumbler
Most of the fabrics were stash, about 1/8 a yard were charm packs, other fabrics were strips. It's a scrappy quilt to donate. The ruler, TUMBLER Template was a gift from a friend that I have had more than 5 years and never used. I was so excited to use the fabric and the ruler, as a new member that I made it and donated it my first month as a new member.

Catherine W - OV Califronia
Nine foot long California themed table runner. I have been collecting California and nautical themed fabric for a long long time. I was asked to make a table runner for an event and was happy to have a reason to use these horded fabrics.
